Project Location

Windsor Great Park

Status
Completed
The Savill Building, a landmark structure at the entrance to The Savill Garden which also acts as the ‘gateway’ to The Royal Landscape of Windsor Great Park, has been a huge success. It attracts more than half a million visitors a year, twice as many as expected when the Crown Estate commissioned the building in 2006.

Its dramatic curved form combines the best in contemporary engineering with traditional craft skills. The ‘gridshell’ roof derives its strength from the grid of its structure and the double curvature of its form and cladding.

It is built from larch and clad with green oak from The Crown Estate’s own sustainable Windsor Estate sources.

“The Savill Building has provided us with a magnificent new iconic building.”
Roger Bright, The Crown Estate
